Medium has over 70 tags with top writer status. For these tags, you’ll get a top writer badge (on your profile in the About section) if you’re one of the top 50 writers in any given month for each tag.
That’s the short answer.
How do you find these top writer tags? Medium doesn’t keep an official list anywhere.
I’ll give you the complete list. Not only that though, with this list you get a rating of each top writer tag. From very low competition to very high competition based on the number of stories written, the number of writers, and the number of existing top writers for each tag. Hint: Some tags don’t have 50 top writers.
